DESCRIPTION:Fort Lauderdale Woman’s Club\nArt and Culture Committee \nChair: Amalie Parrott\nCo-Chair: Penny Frazer \nIt’s time to start thinking about the GFWC Arts and Crafts Contest to be held at our February membership meeting on February 20\, 2025. We hope our members will consider submitting pieces in the areas of needlework\, drawing or painting\, photography\, and crafts. \nEntries for the Club’s 2025 show will be limited to a total of six (6) pieces per member and are judged at the Club level where they compete for 1st\, 2nd\, 3rd place and honorable mention awards. \nPrizes will be awarded as follows: \n1. First\, second\, third\, and honorable mention ribbons will be awarded in each category\, if\ndeemed by the judge(s).\n2. Even if there is only one entry\, it does not necessarily mean the entry is to receive a 1st\nplace ribbon.\n3. The decision of the judge(s) will be final.\n4. Club and District levels may award additional ribbons\, such as Best of Show\, etc. \nPlease read the attached pdf documents to review the competition categories and general GFWC – Florida rules. \nClub members are invited to show off their artistic talents by submitting original pieces in the following categories: \nCrafts 1-44\nArts 70-80\nPhotography 90-97 \nFirst place winners advance to the District 13 competition in the Spring. SUMMARY:Operation Homecoming
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Woman’s Club is again urging members to “Welcome Home” our WWII\, Korean and Vietnam Veterans in Operation Honor Flight on Saturday\, September 7th at the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International airport.  While the Veterans are not scheduled to return home until approximately 8:00 p.m.\, it is advised that all participants arrive early (around 7:00 p.m.) to secure parking and annex a spot in the terminal for our group to gather.  Community Outreach Chair Sally Alshouse will be out of town that date\, but has attended this moving and heartwarming event on multiple occasions.  If we have confirmation of enough attendees\, Annette Ross will arrange a van to transport our group from the Clubhouse to the airport and then a scheduled return trip.  Please feel free to reach out to Sally Alshouse sawcr@aol.com with any questions.

DESCRIPTION:Ladies!  Would you like to learn how to play American \nMah Jong?  Linda Postyn has offered to teach you!\nMahjong Classes Next 3 Wednesdays! \nMay 8\nMay 15\nMay 22\n2:30 pm to 4:00 pm at the Clubhouse\nAmerican mahjong\, also spelled mah jongg\, is a variant of the Chinese game mahjong. American mahjong is played with four players using mah jongg tiles. The goal of the game is to be the first\, by picking and discarding\, to match one’s tiles to a specific hand from the distributed scorecard. \nAmerican mahjong utilizes racks to hold each player’s tiles\, jokers\, and “Hands and Rules” score cards.
