Please join as we celebrate the Women’s Right to Vote! Our guest speaker from the Broward County League of Women’s Voters will present an entertaining talk about the suffrage movement and its fascinating members who helped to ratify the 19th Amendment 100 years ago (August 18, 1920).

The League of Women Voters was born out of the suffrage movement on February 14, 1920 and we are proud to recognize Ivy Stranahan, one of the founders of the Fort Lauderdale Woman’s Club, was an early suffragist in Broward County and served as president of the Florida Equal Suffrage Association in 1917.

Social and buffet luncheon begins at 11:30AM with program and meeting commencing at Noon.  A donation of $15.00 is payable at the door by cash/check (preferred) or credit card.

“The campaign for women’s voting rights lasted more than seven decades. Considered the largest reform movement in United States history, its participants believed that securing the vote was essential to achieving women’s economic, social, and political equality.

“Culminating 100 years ago in the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the fight for women’s suffrage was not for the fainthearted. Determined women organized, lobbied, paraded, petitioned, lectured, and picketed for years. Suffragists were ridiculed, patronized, and dismissed by opponents, yet they persisted. Some were assaulted and endured the harsh confines of prison for daring to claim rights equal to men, but they would not be denied.”
